There are many ways to know whether or not you need an oil change. Here are the top four:
1.Fuel type
First, note your vehicle’s fuel type. While ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles require regular oil changes to perform at their best, fully electric models like the Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning don’t have engines. That means they don’t have engine oil that needs to be changed.
2.Dashboard Lights
Many newer Ford models are equipped with an oil change indicator light that will illuminate on your dashboard when your vehicle needs fresh oil. It’s called the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) system. This smart system monitors the amount of time since your last oil change as well as your vehicle’s operating conditions and your driving habits.
3.Time
If it’s been more than one year since your last oil change, then your vehicle is due for one. Most Ford vehicles will need an oil change once every 7,500-10,000 miles. That’s about once or twice a year for the average Wyoming driver. Never go more than 10,000 miles or one year between oil changes.
4.Symptoms
When your vehicle is overdue for an oil change, you’ll start to notice certain symptoms, like:
- Decreased fuel efficiency
- Clicking or grinding noises
- Smoke under the hood
